Hey, what’s up everybody, welcome back to my channel blog! Hi, how are ya?
I have always played it relatively safe with makeup but recently I discovered Jeffree Star on YouTube. Jeffree Star is arguably one of the biggest beauty gurus in the industry, he isn’t one to shy away from controversy, drama and bold colours. I became more compelled to experiment with makeup as I watched him play with bold colours to create fierce looks.
In March, $2.5 million worth of product stolen from his warehouse, including an entire shade range from his highly anticipated Magic Star Concealer. The robbery prompted the launch date for the Magic Star Concealer and Magic Star Setting Powder which was released last month.
I was really excited when I heard that Jeffree Star Cosmetics was releasing a concealer. I am extremely fair skinned so I can struggle to find a concealer that is full coverage that isn’t orange. But alas, it wasn’t meant to be as it sold out fairly quickly worldwide. However whilst I wait on the restock, I did manage to get my hands on the Magic Star Setting Powder and Blue Collection Liquid Frost Highlighter.
I purchased the Magic Star Setting Powder (£21) from Beauty Bay in Rose, meant for fair to light skin tones with pink undertones. This setting powder is ultra fine and weightless and available in eight different shades.
My first thought when unboxing was how much I loved this packaging, it gave me major Sailor Moon vibes. As a child, I desperately wanted the Sailor Moon transformation brooch and now I have my own… which transforms my face.

The second thought was how good this setting powder smells. Normally I am not a fan of something smelling overly sweet but I love the burnt cotton candy smell from this product. It is fragrant but light enough that it doesn’t overpower you or linger throughout the day.
As someone that usually has to constantly re-apply concealer, I really liked this product. I have been playing with this the last few weeks during the day but really put it to the test recently after going to celebrate to a friend’s birthday. I applied my makeup mid-afternoon finishing it with the Magic Star setting powder and my makeup lasted the full night.
Having extremely fair skin has meant I have struggled to find a powder which doesn’t create a flashback in photos or create discoloured patches. The rose pink colour really complimented and brightened my skin tone.
It is worth mentioning that this product works better with concealer with a thicker creamier consistency. With lighter formulas, I noticed that it did tend to stick to the product highlighting dry patches.
Overall, I am pretty happy with this setting powder, the formula is really good and it is sold at a reasonable price point.
Blue Collection Liquid Frost Highlighter
The second product I bought was the Blue Collection Liquid Frost (£23) in Michigan Ice. The innovative, highly-concentrated formula is non-sticky, vegan and cruelty-free. It can be used as a subtle sparkle or built upon for a metallic shine.
The Liquid Frost highlight has been a staple in the JSC collection with the recent Blue Collection creating some beautiful blue and peach highlights. I chose Michigan Ice which has a lovely silver blue colour that really shines on my fair skin.
I was really taken aback by how this product applies, a little goes a long long way. I always play it safe with my highlight, going for something a little more subtle. But subtle isn’t exactly Jeffree Star’s wheelhouse. This product is slightly more glittery than I would usually go for but overall I do like how it looks on my skin.
Considering how little product you have to use, this is incredibly good value for money. If I were to purchase another Liquid Frost product, I would most likely go for a peachy or gold colour just for something more practical for everyday use.
What were your thoughts? Have you tried either of these products or would you? Let me know what beauty brands you love and recommend in the comments.
Until next time,
Ashleigh x

I tried a Jeffree Star lip product a few years back and hated the formula so I’ve never purchased anything since! I have been enticed by some of his releases, though. I was a bit shocked at that highlight when I saw the swatch but it looks so beautiful and glowy when on your face! LOVE the packaging of the setting powder, too 🙂

I was so hesitant when I unboxed the highlight as it’s something massively out of my comfort zone but after playing about with it, I’ve found how to make it work for me and it photographs beautiful!!
The packaging of the Setting Powder is amazing and feels high quality.
