Just a Coffee a Day Saving Challenge

With just little over two months until Christmas, I’m sure I’m not the only one that has found themselves underprepared with a lack of money put aside. It’s amazing how despite it being the same date every year, it really creeps up on you. One minute you’re chilling watching Love Island and the next it’s October and you’re digging out your thermals.

This is the moment where I begin to panic about not budgeting before now (being unorganised is really on-brand for me).

This lack of organisation is what also has me running out the door most days without my morning coffee. I would usually say the extra 20 minutes in bed are worth it but after doing the manic morning run a couple of days in a row you start to notice the cost adds up.

More often than not I was spending around £2.50, four to five days a week – potentially more if I was feeling fancy and desiring something syrupy, frapped or supersized. This got me thinking about how much money I spend on coffees monthly and how much I could be saving. This realisation and some quick maths made me realise that between now and Christmas I had the potential to save upwards of £100

With this in mind, I decided to set myself a Just a Coffee a Day Saving Challenge. For the next seven weeks rather than buying coffee on my way to work, I will bring my own in a reusable cup, saving myself £15-20 each week, saving over £100 overall. (This money I will most likely take out and put aside or run the risk of spending it on other frivolous shit).

Just by changing one thing so simple I will have some additional spending money that I can put towards presents or my Christmas night out.

I’ve been finding this an effective way to save a little bit consistently as it’s an amount I know I can afford daily and it surprisingly adds up. I am using the Just a Coffee a Day Saving Challenge to save for Christmas but it’s a simple and effective way to save for any upcoming events you may have. An easy way to save up some additional spending money for holidays or to save for something you’ve had your eye on for ages. Treat yo’ self!

Not exactly coming for Martin Lewis Money Saving Expert and his crown but what I’d consider a potentially useful saving challenge for when you are looking for a minimal effort way to save some extra cash!

  1. My biggest money saver is not buying lunch at work. Hard to do but happy when I do

  2. These are the money saving tips that I like, saving a few pounds here and there seems so much easier than deliberately setting a chunk aside. I used to do this with convenience snacks rather than (easily) making food and the difference was amazing x

  3. It’s crazy how simple but effective that method is! I did the same today where I brought in some hot chocolate to make at work rather than popping down to costa and spending nearly £3 on one. It made me feel so good!

  4. It’s amazing how much a small shift like that can really add up over time if we stick with it! This is why I am currently a little in love with my new travel mug – it’s encouraging me to use it more and purchase coffee from Tim Hortons less lol

  5. This is a great idea! I don’t buy coffee on the way to work, but I definitely spend a lot on it regardless!

  6. Such a brilliant idea for people who buy coffee everyday! I don’t, thankfully, but my boyfriend used to until he realized how much he was spending. Now he just buys in bulk and makes it at home. Great challenge to save some money for Christmas! I have to challenge myself to stop using Amazon…not sure how well that will go!

  7. This is such a simple but effective way to save money! I work from home so luckily I don’t have to spend money on lunch or tea/coffee throughout the day. But for those that do, this simple method could save SO MUCH in the lead up to Christmas. Which is always helpful! xxx

    1. It’s a nice treat every so often especially with all the seasonal drinks coming out but my god does it add up! Only when I sat down and calculated, I realised how much I could be saving just by getting up 5 minutes earlier and making it myself! Xxx

  8. Such a great idea on how to save and it’s a thing I feel like a lot of people can put into practice because it’s such an everyday expense that quickly adds up! Thanks for sharing + good luck with the saving x

  9. I always tend to rely on getting coffee out as away to simply well get myself out of the house, especially now when I am unemployed and stuck in a rut looking for jobs. I keep meaning to get myself a reusable cup, but I always forget! In terms of budgeting and money saving I suppose that I’m pretty good with making batch meals out of limited ingredients 🙂

    1. In that circumstance I definitely understand why you’d want to go for a coffee just for your own peace of mind. I just tend to be lazy in the mornings and need to be better at being prepared.

Batch cooking with limited ingredients is a great skill to have and a great way to save money.

Good luck on job hunt and hope you find something amazing soon! Xx

  10. This is such a good idea! Better for your wallet and the planet. Thanks for sharing & I hope you manage to save as much as you want,

    1. I had gotten in the habit of taking my reusable cup everywhere as a way to reduce my plastic intake and more often than not, cafes will give you a discount. But even then it’s still quite expensive for a daily habit!

Hopefully I’ll save enough to buy some additional presents for my family. Xx
