Let the good times roll! Or as they say in New Orleans, laissez les bon temp rouler! New Orleans will have been full of beads, colour and revellers this week as Mardi Gras Celebrations were in full swing. Mardi Gras is as synonymous with New Orleans as Bourbon Street, jazz and beignets.
New Orleans has been on my trip wish list for a long time but the closet I’m getting any time soon is Glasgow’s answer to Cafe Du Monde: Wild Flours Gluten-Free Bakery.
The popular Southside bakery serves a selection of gluten-free cakes, bread and savoury options during the week but Sundays belong to the beignets. I, myself, am not gluten-free but it’s great that Wild Flours caters for all, so no one misses out.
Beignets are small fried choux pastries dusted in icing sugar and possibly one of my favourite sweet treats! I’m not going to lie, I first found out about beignets in Disney’s Princess and the Frog and even in cartoon form they looked amazing!
I searched high and low around Glasgow before stumbling upon this gem. The beignets come in portions of three or five, covered in icing sugar with an option of sides. My favourite is maple syrup and bacon!
